The Loom of Mountains and Rivers

The Loom of Mountains and Rivers tells the story of Lu Yunshu, a textile industrialist who took over her father's business between 1921 and 1938. Amid the decline of national industry and the invasion of foreign powers, she devoted her life to serving her country through technology and saving it through industry. Lu Yunshu's growth is not a linear climb to success. Every choice she makes is torn between her technological ideals, emotional attachments, and responsibility to her country. Her strength as a leading heroine is not innate. As she loses her father, her factory, and even faces the possibility of losing her life, she gradually understands the weight behind the words “the loom of mountains and rivers.” The looms do not spin only threads. Through the most basic acts of spinning and weaving, they sustain the pulse of a civilization as a nation teeters on the brink of survival.
