Just as Ran Youhuan finished repairing a rift in the world and returned from the Void Realm to the Quick Transmigration Bureau, red warning lights flashed across the cluttered screens. Her little assistant anxiously briefed her on the dangerous state of the worlds one by one. A video call from the Director-General of the World Division appeared on her wristband. Ran Youhuan paused, her eyes cool and unreadable, giving away no hint of her feelings.
She looked up at the floating screen depicting a small world, which was continually cracking apart, and spoke in a voice as calm as still water:
"I'll find the source and put an end to everything."
The Director-General acted with great efficiency. With a cold expression and not the slightest ripple in his eyes, he brought up the image of a girl in drab clothes and spoke indifferently:
"Your abilities certainly match your attitude. A nuisance. Deal with her. She's in the way."
Ran Youhuan's fingertips brushed lightly over the control panel's cold surface. Her voice turned slightly somber as she enunciated each word:
"She's not even sixteen. She's still at an age protected by labor laws."
The air around the Director-General turned icy. His gaze was sharp as a blade, and his tone carried undisguised reproach:
"The Quick Transmigration Bureau has never been a place for sentimental concerns. The worlds are on the brink of collapse, and billions of lives hang in the balance, yet you're still quibbling over her age?
As the person in charge, you've failed in your duties to this extent, and you still dare to talk about protecting her?
If you delay any longer, can you bear the consequences?"
The red warning lights flickered between them, illuminating her ever-cool, unruffled eyes and the sharp air of her superior's fury. One calm, one enraged; one gentle, one stern. Beneath the screen of a small world on the brink of collapse, they stood locked in a moment of tense hostility.
