In a red-brick courtyard in 1977 lived Wang Yadan, the chubby little girl who gave everyone in the neighborhood the most trouble.

At two and a half, she was over the weight limit and off the charts for mischief. She climbed onto the roof to lift the tiles and raid birds' nests, chased chickens and ducks, and took apart the coal stove. If she didn't get into trouble for a day, she couldn't sit still.

And yet her whole family spoiled her rotten.

Her father, Wang Jianjun, was a tough guy at the brick factory. He could carry a hundred catties of bricks at work, but at home his chubby daughter rode on his shoulders. He couldn't bring himself to hit or scold her, and spent his entire paycheck buying meat for her, just to see her round little face light up with a smile. “My girl needs to be chubby. That's a blessing!”

Her grandparents treated her like the apple of their eye, while her uncle Wang Jianguo was her personal servant every day, climbing trees to pick dates and wading into the river to catch fish whenever she called.

One day, little Yadan held up her muddy hands and told her father in a childish voice, “Dad, Yadan will do your laundry!”

The result: the basin tipped over, the soap disappeared, and Dad's work pants turned into “mud-monkey pants.”

Looking at the mess, Wang Jianjun laughed in exasperation and scooped her into his arms. “Little troublemaker, the biggest help you can give Dad is to stay right where you are!”

Nobody knew that this chubby little girl, cherished by her whole family, was the only thing that gave her father, Wang Jianjun, the courage to face life's hardships.

No heartache here, only heartwarming affection. See how this two-and-a-half-year-old chubby little girl uses her soft, round body to heal everyone through the hard years.
