The protagonist, Lin Daomei, is unlucky by name and by nature, born with a “bad luck buff.” He chokes on water, bites his tongue while eating, and steps in dog poop every day. His family has been ghost hunters for three generations, but by his turn, all their magic tools are defective, nine out of ten talismans fail, and his ghost hunting depends entirely on luck, or rather, bad luck. Other people rely on skill to catch ghosts; he gets them to run away in frustration or tricks them into miserable situations. The whole thing is absurdly hilarious, with one unlucky mishap after another.
