In the second year of Yuanguang, Nie Yi pretended to surrender and lured Shan Yu, a military official with 100,000 cavalry, to go south. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up an ambush in Mayi with an army of 300,000 people. However, the plan was exposed and the Han army returned without success. The mastermind Wang Hui was imprisoned and committed suicide. This is known as the Mayi conspiracy in history.
Although there was no confrontation in this battle, it ignited the flames of the Northern Expedition. The peace treaty was torn to pieces, and the era of iron and fire suddenly arrived.
From then on, the Han Dynasty turned from defense to offense, and Li Guang, Wei Qing, and Huo Qubing appeared one after another, writing a magnificent history of the Northern Expedition.
