Su Wan, a sweet girl from a farm family, and Gu Yanze, a poor scholar, were originally sweet childhood sweethearts in a water town in the south of the Yangtze River. They were secretly engaged for life, waiting for him to come back and marry her after winning the first prize in the exam.
