This is a story about two male protagonists that takes place in Shanghai during the fictional Republic of China, a unique city split into the Chinese community and the concession. In the context of this turbulent era, the Chinese community was divided by three major forces - Qinglong Society, Baizu Society and Zhuque Hall. The concession became the world of foreigners, and the patrol house maintained the superficial order as the minions of foreigners. At the same time, warlords are raging outside, the two warlords in the south and the north are facing each other, and the Kirigakure country is eyeing the country outside, threatening the country's security at all times.
The protagonists of this work are two young people with different personalities but intertwined destinies: one is Wei Chengchuan, the second master from the Qinglong Society, and the other is Lu Chongyuan, a young master from a Shanghai family who returned from studying abroad. They accidentally triggered an ancient coin that allowed their souls to exchange, and also discovered a lantern that could travel through time and space. This not only changed the trajectory of their lives, but also provided them with an unprecedented perspective on the world.
As the story develops, the two protagonists use the ability of the artifact to travel between identities and time, gradually uncovering the conspiracy hidden behind the city, and try to change the direction of this era through their own efforts. However, soul exchange brings not only physical transformation, but also collision and fusion deep in the soul. Facing a complex network of interpersonal relationships, political struggles, and external military threats, they must learn to trust each other and leverage their respective strengths in order to find a way to survive in this crisis-ridden adventure and ultimately achieve their common goal - to restore peace to this divided city and end the endless war.
