Echo Island: The Twelfth Corpse

Feng Wan, a criminal profiler, receives a yellowed anonymous letter inviting her to investigate a bizarre case on Echo Island, a place that does not appear on any map. After arriving, she meets eleven other invitees, each with a different background, only to discover in horror that the twelve people named in the invitation have yielded just eleven bodies, each dead in a different way. At midnight, an ancient stone statue turns its head to stare at the living. Every day, bloody words appear on the beach from nowhere, precisely exposing each person's deepest sins, including Feng Wan's forcibly buried memories of her sister's disappearance when she was seven. When the survivors realize that every electronic device is locked onto the same steadily decreasing countdown, the psychologist accompanying them reveals with a tremble that the island beneath their feet is no ordinary island. It is a mysterious altar where twelve young people died by group suicide thirty years ago. Now, the survivors are beginning to show symptoms of petrification one by one. Before she turns completely to stone, Feng Wan must race against time to solve a double mystery spanning thirty years: Why did only eleven bodies remain at the site of that suicide, while the twelfth spot was engraved with the name of a survivor? And who is the “Twelfth Person” hidden among the survivors, the one who knows everything and is manipulating this “Judgment”? Every attempt to change the past or present triggers a new “echo,” bringing even more terrifying phenomena and deeper suspicions. The only thing Feng Wan can rely on is a power she acquired by chance: the ability to briefly create an “echo of consciousness” with a key figure at the altar thirty years ago. But this power is a double-edged sword. As it lets her glimpse fragments of the truth, it also forces her to face what she refuses to admit
