Tomioka Giyu looked up at the hand before him and gently pressed his face against it. His dewy eyes were rimmed with red as he stared intently at her.
“Why can he... but I can't?”

The wind gently pushed the door shut. Ieiri Shoko came to her senses and lowered her eyes as she picked up a cigarette from the table and held it up.
“Do you mind?”
Eda lowered her hand from her chin and gently shook her head.
“Click, ”
A faint flame flickered to life, illuminating their faces as it swayed softly.
A tiny red glow appeared in the dark, and Eda's eyes lit up. Looking at the girl whose features were blurred by smoke, she ventured, “Can I try?”
Ieiri Shoko froze. Those jade-green eyes drew closer to her. Eda's gaze slowly dropped as she took the cigarette between Shoko's fingers into her mouth, gently touching it to the glowing tip.
Like a red tide, the glow gradually spread to the other end.
The short-haired girl's lashes quivered, the emotions in her eyes like mist slowly rising. She curled her lips into a smile and took a deep drag.
