In the gap between modernity and history, there is an "ancient book world" constructed from ancient books from past dynasties. Each ancient book is an independent copy of time and space, carrying the corresponding memories of the era and fragments of civilization. The Book Spirits are the consciousness incarnations of ancient books, guarding the order of their respective worlds; while the "Book Burners" are a group of organizations that try to tamper with ancient books and distort history to gain power. The protagonist Lin Yan, an ancient book restorer, accidentally became an "ancient book traveler" while repairing the fragmentary volume of "Ancient and Modern General Chronicles". He must travel between different ancient books to complete his mission and protect the authenticity of history.
