After dying from overwork under the 996 schedule, programmer Lin Xiaoyang passed the civil service exam for the Underworld.
The Third Precinct of Fengdu Police Department was his new workplace.
Here, ghosts got into brawls over noise complaints about square dancing, property disputes over paper mansions, and even cutting in line for a chance to reincarnate. His daily routine involved driving a spirit-powered patrol car and dealing with these chaotic “underworld cases.”
Then he ran into a series of strange incidents:
A head that ran off on its own from a museum, claiming it had drunk “Granny Meng’s Soup” while alive;
Every paper phone in the Underworld crashed at once, and the hacker code turned out to have been written by him when he was alive…
Lin Xiaoyang finally realized something was wrong. Why could he see corrupted data streams on every ghost? Why did the operating rules of the entire Underworld look like a mess of code he had written?
When he tried to fix the first truly world-level bug, alarms rang throughout the netherworld.
On the projection screen in the Hall of King Yan, a line of crimson text scrolled into view:
“Unknown variable detected. Executing command: format. Countdown: initiated.”
And on the back of his police badge, a line of tiny text slowly appeared, one that had never been there before:
“Permission level: Creator (temporary).”
