Chen Mo, a mysterious young man living in an unfinished building, harbors a secret he himself has yet to fully understand. The ancient jade pendant beneath his pillow is cool to the touch, but it always grows hot at midnight, revealing fragmented, uncanny visions. To save on rent, he has made his home in the abandoned skeleton of a concrete building, thinking his days amount to little more than arguing with rent increase notices and making do with discarded furniture. Then came the rain that floated up into the sky, shattering his peace for good.
The old Wang who watches over the construction site suddenly reveals pupil-less white eyes, murmuring an incomprehensible incantation about "returning to one's place." An old phone that appears out of nowhere flashes a blood-red countdown, pointing toward an unknown end. Moonlight gathers into golden threads on the walls, weaving the shadow of a massive, swaying-scaled creature... Only when the pendant's markings burn a brand into his palm does Chen Mo realize that the "ordinary" life he depends on is no more than a thin sheet of paper.
Who is he? What is locked inside the pendant? When the countdown ends, will it bring destruction or rebirth? Even more terrifying, the visions he once thought were hallucinations are slowly creeping into reality. The old man who sells sugar figurines at the end of the alley can vanish into thin air. The girl in the neighboring building always bows to the empty air at midnight. And the jade pendant in his pocket is humming more and more urgently, as if answering a call from the distant past.
As the world's familiar rules begin to collapse, demons hidden in the folds of everyday life, strange practitioners concealed among the crowds, and conspiracies spanning a thousand years all awaken because of this jade pendant. Clutching the burning pendant, Chen Mo sets out under the pressure of the countdown, only to discover that the answer he seeks was etched into his bones on the very first day he moved into the unfinished building.
