The emperor was obsessed with cultivating immortality and neglected state affairs, unaware that immortals were secretly contending over every inch of land beneath his feet. The Heavenly Emperor ruled the Three Realms, ancient gods lay dormant in all directions, and the entire history of China was no more than a stunning game of chess devised by a supreme being.
