Hidden throughout Northeast China are all kinds of "yin practitioners": people who raise fox spirits, worship household guardian spirits, practice shamanism, or perform spirit-medium rituals. Each has their own special skills, but they keep to themselves. The protagonist's job is to introduce these practitioners to people afflicted by evil spirits, earning him the underworld nickname "The Guandong Spirit Summoner." Every major case is adapted from real supernatural folklore, records of spirit-medium practices, and shamanic legends from Northeast China.
