Urban development and the demolition of old buildings have produced a large number of "earthbound spirits" (spirits trapped in specific places due to obsession). Lao Bai formed a mutual aid group to help Xin Ling adapt to the life of a "nail house" and study how to survive the bulldozers. Members include literary spirits trapped in closed bookstores, ghosts who died in unfinished buildings, and natural spirits attached to old banyan trees. They discovered that the developer's plan contained a kind of "spiritual feng shui". The purpose was not to develop, but to systematically clear the city's old memories and establish a pure and controllable new space. Mutual aid societies must unite and use their respective earth-bound characteristics (the knowledge of library spirits, the perception of old tree spirits, and the resentment of wronged souls) to create tiny chaos that "cannot be planned" at the nodes of the city's spiritual veins, like the weeds on the old city wall, announcing the possibility of another existence.
