One Step Along the Immortal Path

At the spiritual-root testing ceremony, two companions dazzled the entire crowd: his childhood friend Wang Kai had a superior-grade spiritual root, while Bai Ran, the girl he secretly loved, displayed an earth-shaking vision with her earth-grade spiritual root.

Only he, Lu Yi, had a spirit stone that remained utterly still.

“No spiritual root. You’re disqualified.”

As the elders competed to take the other two as disciples, he walked down from the immortal sect alone.

Behind him lay bamboo groves and immortal cranes. Ahead was the unknown mortal world. But he had no idea that a drop of blood would awaken an ancient jade slip.

Only then did he learn the truth: he was no ordinary mortal. He was someone fate had concealed.

The greatest variable in this game of chess.
