Hao Shu is an ordinary third-year student in the School of Economics at S University. Her grades are average, and though she seems cheerful, her parents’ divorce has left her sensitive and insecure inside. She is the most inconspicuous “invisible person” on campus. A heavy secret weighs on her life: her mother is seriously ill, and the exorbitant medical bills have forced Hao Shu to take one part-time job after another, leaving her exhausted. One night, while delivering food, she has an accident and spills hot soup on Gu Hanzhou, the investor behind the newly completed Mingde Building on campus. Just thirty years old, he is already a legend in the business world, and a cold, imposing CEO. This farcical misunderstanding becomes the turning point in her life.
Gu Hanzhou is under pressure from his family to find a “contract girlfriend” to fend off their nagging about marriage and thwart his business rivals’ schemes to arrange a marriage alliance. He chooses Hao Shu for her “clean” background and desperate need for money, and offers her a one-year “campus romance contract”: she will play his sweet, obedient girlfriend and accompany him to necessary events, while he pays her enough to cover her mother’s medical bills. For Hao Shu, it is an impossible choice: trade in fake affection to save her mother, or hold on to her self-respect and risk losing the person she loves most? With a countdown looming as her mother’s condition worsens and surgery becomes urgent, she signs her name with a trembling hand.
Once the contract begins, the spirited and mischievous Hao Shu and the ice-cold Gu Hanzhou act out one “terribly performed” scene after another, both on and off campus, yet somehow they work together. She is forced into his world.
