Over the past two thousand years, I have seen Qin Shihuang vigorously implement the imperial policy, and I have also seen the backbone bent by harsh governance at the foot of the Great Wall; I have personally experienced the night changes in the sand dunes, the March fire in Xianyang, and followed Liu Bang into Bashang and settled in Chang'an; my imperial case in Weiyang Palace I felt the light smoke of Wenjing's rule, and listened to Li Shimin's words "Water can carry a boat" on the night of Zhenguan; I followed Xuanzong to Shu to see the collapse of the prosperous age; I curled up in the stove, buried in the field ridge, and listened to three hundred years of dog barking and crying in the river mud; I was attached to the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" and saw all the living beings in Bianliang; I was floating in the sea breeze on the cliffs and watched one hundred thousand soldiers and civilians jumping into the sea to die for their country; I hid in the cracks in the bricks of the Nanjing city wall, and the blood of three hundred thousand people soaked my soul.
In the imperial palace, I have felt the warmth of the emperor and the warmth of his tactics;
In the wars of troubled times, I have reflected the rise and fall of dynasties and the blood and tears of the common people.
I have watched dynasties change like horses, with emperors and generals appearing in glory and then leaving sadly.
I said nothing, but I hid all the blood and fire of China;
I am silent, but I remember the rise and fall of mountains and rivers.
Once, I thought I was a token of destiny;
Later I realized that what was really carried by me was never those eight words.
But behind the words, there is the hope of generations of people.
They are the answer.
