A charlatan heroine / a scheming green-tea beauty / violent aesthetics / wealthy-family power struggles / everyone gets their comeuppance

Everyone in Shanghai knows that Young Master Lu has recently become obsessed with a fortune-telling girl.

Her name is Su Chacha. Her eyes are like autumn waters, her voice is softer than a mosquito’s buzz, and each fortune costs ten silver dollars.

Lu Yan held a cigar between his teeth and sneered. “She’s after my money? I’ll make sure she never runs out of chances to scam me.”

Three months later, Lu Yan cornered her at her fortune-telling stall. “Miss Su the Seer, tell me what I’m thinking right now.”

Su Chacha’s lashes fluttered. She flicked a copper coin with her fingertip. “The signs say... you want to buy me that plot of land by the City God Temple to use as a Taoist altar.”

That night, Lu Yan saw her in an alley with a sack over her head, beating his archenemy until he was bawling for his mother.

She turned around, wiping blood away as she smiled. “Young Master Lu, was that fortune... accurate too?”

Lu Yan stubbed out his cigar. “Spot-on. For my next fortune, tell me when we’re getting married.”

Later, all of Shanghai heard that Young Master Lu was chasing a female charlatan, shouting as he ran, “Chacha! I’ll never ruin your business again! Please tell my fortune and say that what I’m missing is you!”

Su Chacha ran even faster. “Bah! What you’re missing is a beating!”
