After the Favorite Consort Got Arrogant, Her Childhood Sweetheart Went Crazy with Regret

Murong Zhuo is the most brazen consort in the palace. She smashes tribute gifts, beats concubines, and talks back to the empress dowager. His Majesty lets her get away with all of it. Everyone says she’s a spoiled little tyrant who’s bound to get into trouble sooner or later. But no one knows that the night she entered the palace, Wen Shumo stood outside its gates all night. The young man who once picked flowers for her had promised to marry her when he passed the imperial exams. Later, he passed them, and she became the emperor’s consort. Later still, he knelt to marry her half-sister. On the day of the wedding, the Noble Consort fell ill in her palace, and His Majesty kept vigil by her side for three days and nights. Her half-sister wept and said, “Sister, I had no choice…” Murong Zhuo looked at her and smiled. “Little sister, can you sleep soundly with something you stole?” Three years later, Wen Shumo returned after being posted away and knelt below the steps of the throne, begging to see her one more time. The crabapple blossoms in the imperial garden were in full bloom. She stood beneath a tree and smiled faintly. “Lord Wen, it’s been a while.” His eyes reddened. “A Zhuo, I regret it.” She turned to the emperor behind her. “Your Majesty, do you think he regrets it too late?” Jun Moyuan took her hand. “Would you like to make him regret it even more?” Murong Wan never understood, even on her deathbed: She stole her sister’s man, yet never won his heart. And that lofty emperor finally learned how to love someone the moment she turned away.
