Playing Dumb and Farming in the 1970s, the Village Belle Takes Charge

[Feel-Good Revenge + Period Setting + Multiple Female Characters + Face-Slapping]

After transmigrating to a rural village in the 1970s, Chu Tianyou becomes an idiot. His parents sell their ox and borrow money to bring home a wife for him, Chen Youke. Usually she goes unnoticed, looking drab and dusty, but she stuns everyone by wearing a new outfit on their wedding day. She's the village beauty! But her mother wants to marry her off to the Li family, who are offering a higher bride price. On the wedding day, the Li family shows up with people to snatch her away. This idiot isn't about to put up with that. He grabs a hoe and chases them for three miles, earning the respect of the whole village.

He makes a few “coo-coo” sounds at the river, and two softshell turtles come bobbing up out of the water. He squeaks at the rafters, and rats carry off his enemy's entire store of grain. He cries “ah-ah” at the treetops, and crows poop on his enemy's face. He meows at the wall, and a weasel sneaks into his enemy's chicken coop that night.

No one knows those animals obey him. And no one knows that when he hoots and meows at the owls in the middle of the night, he learns everything happening for miles around: what people are saying and what they're hiding.

Only his wife knows that this man isn't such an idiot in bed.

An idiot and a crowd of animals make an enviable life for themselves in the dirt-poor 1970s.

A farming story about a man pretending to be an idiot, with a golden finger that makes everything a delight. Life couldn't be sweeter.
