Lin Wanqiu, a modern agricultural science PhD, transmigrates into the body of an orphan girl in an ancient mountain village, driven to her death by her awful relatives. From the start, she is destitute, with nothing but bare walls to her name, and on the brink of being sold off by her uncle and aunt in exchange for a bride price. Drawing on modern knowledge, she struggles to survive, beginning with improving the soil and cultivating high-yield crops. After a flash flood, she finds a handsome, gravely injured man with amnesia by the river and takes him home. She calls him “A Jing.” To keep people from asking questions, she claims he is a distant cousin, and the two join forces to make a living. Lin Wanqiu provides the technical know-how and business savvy, while A Jing, with his brute strength and vague military expertise, becomes her most reliable helper and protector. From clearing land and farming to inventing new tools and improving food processing, they gradually build their wealth.
But danger lurks everywhere. Her greedy uncle and aunt, an envious village head, and local gentry coveting her skills and beauty keep setting traps to steal what she has achieved. They even slander her and A Jing as having “secret relations without a matchmaker,” hoping to use clan rules and Confucian propriety to crush her completely. Lin Wanqiu must fight not only harsh natural conditions, but also the idea that “a woman without talent is virtuous.” Then A Jing, the Battle God Prince Xiao Jing, renowned for his military victories but framed and disappeared, gradually regains his memories, and an even greater storm gathers.
