Siheyuan: Rewriting Fate from 1953

After 26 years as a corporate wage slave, Lin Xiaoyu is accidentally transported to Beiping in 1953, where he becomes Lin Jianjun, a fifteen-year-old boy living in the front courtyard of the compound from Birds Fill the Courtyard.

The original Lin family has nothing to its name. His parents are frail, his younger brother and sister are still small, and across the way lives the calculating Third Master Yan Bugui. The compound is full of trouble: the scheming of First Master, Second Master’s obsession with status, Qin Huairu’s cunning, and Xu Damao’s viciousness.

With memories of the next sixty-plus years, Lin Jianjun understands both the opportunities and the traps of the era, and knows all too well the tragic fates awaiting the people in the courtyard.

He changes his family’s destiny and influences the lives of those around him: helping Silly Zhu escape Qin Huairu’s control, getting Yan Bugui to curb his excessive thrift, stopping Xu Damao from committing evil and ruining himself, and standing by Song Yaping through the storms of life.
