Fortune Teller by Trade, Painted-Skin Artist by Night

Other people transmigrate into modern cities, awaken a System, and hack their way through a chaotic world. I transmigrated into Yanhuang, awakened the Painted Skin inheritance, and went straight to the Bureau of Civilization to register and pay taxes!

The Nine Cauldrons guard the Nine Provinces; rules govern yin and yang.

In this land, cultivators need licenses to work, wandering souls must be registered, and even the fiercest demons and monsters only dare to keep their heads down and cause trouble on the sly. They would never openly cross the legal line.

Spiritual energy is state-owned property. Paying spiritual energy tax is the duty of every cultivator in Yanhuang!

My name is Sun Taiyuan. I run a fortune-telling shop by the Qinhuai River. Officially, I sell handicrafts; behind the scenes, I’m a licensed Painted Skin artisan registered with the Bureau of Civilization.

For a delivery driver who can’t bear to leave his daughter behind, I paint a compliant skin that extends his life. He can walk among the living for a hundred years without being arrested by the ghost constables or prosecuted under the law;

For an elderly person who’s been scammed, I expose a fraud set up by a demon of greed, then work with the enforcement team to close the case by the book. I never take matters into my own hands.

One reading reveals the karmic ties of the human world; one painting decides life and death in the realms of yin and yang.

Others fight ghosts with brawling and bloodshed. I rely on obeying the law and following official procedure.
