March 8, 2019, was the day Lin Yi would never forget.
That evening, he brought a cake he’d bought with three months of saved wages to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday. Instead, he found her sitting in the arms of a rich heir, wearing a watch worth half a million.
“You could work hard for a year and still not afford the watch he bought.” Those were the last words his girlfriend ever said to him.
He lost his job, his money, and every shred of dignity. In the pouring rain, he smashed the jade pendant his grandfather had left him.
Then a voice with a Tianjin accent rang in his head: “Oh my! This thing’s a treasure!”
System: Beacon of the Nation, No. 0817. Core function: can only earn foreign currency. Earn 1 US dollar = 10 National Pride Points; earn 1 yuan = 0.1 National Pride Points. System motto: “What’s the point of making money off your own people? Go fleece the capitalists!”
From then on, Lin Yi changed course
With a ragtag team assembled at an internet cafe, he went to America to compete in gaming tournaments, taking third place and earning his first fortune;
He shorted the company owned by a rich heir’s father, leaving the capitalist who’d faked his way onto the stock market with nothing;
He anonymously sent a female scientist lithography technology, was mistaken for a spy, and later became her boyfriend;
When Wall Street moved to crush Chinese stocks, he staged a comeback, became a legend overnight, and made the cover of Time;
He poured all the foreign currency he earned into chips, rockets, satellites, and more…
His ex-girlfriend later saw him on television, with the viewing stand at the National Day parade in the background.
The rich heir later became his chauffeur, saying, “I picked the right person to follow.”
The System later asked him, “Buddy, was it worth it?”
Lin Yi thought for a moment, then smiled
