Villagers in Ogimachi Village were eaten by demons, and for some inexplicable reason, the protagonist, Akutagawa Yashomaru, was blamed. The villagers tied him to a pyre to burn him alive. Just when he had lost all hope of escaping, the village chief saved him.

But the old geezer turned out to be no good either. He promptly offered Yashomaru to Daki as a meal of human blood in exchange for money.

With the worst possible start, Yashomaru fell into despair once more. Fortunately, the Water Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps arrived in time. And then... the former Water Hashira, whom Yashomaru had never even met, was swiftly killed by Gyutaro.

Seeing the Upper Rank Six in Daki and Gyutaro’s eyes, Yashomaru fell into despair yet again...

1. The protagonist has an unusual identity. He does have a System, but it isn’t there from the start. He obtains it in an unexpected way.

2. The protagonist doesn’t begin as an invincible powerhouse. He’s a miserable little rookie who was born with a short lifespan and a curse.

3. As the protagonist comprehends Cursed Breathing, he also extends his lifespan by slaying demons. He gradually grows and gets stronger through repeated battles.
