A Migrant Worker’s Confession to a College Girl on the Wild Great Wall

This novel shows profound humanistic care, and its advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1. Gaze and empathy towards marginalized characters The novel takes two seemingly disjoint groups, migrant workers and female college students, as the protagonists, and deeply depicts the spiritual world, emotional needs and identity dilemmas of the urban bottom workers (migrant workers). The author does not symbolize migrant workers, but uses details (such as learning the Oxford dictionary, writing love letters, and imagining "heaven") to show his inner richness, desire for dignity, and yearning for pure emotions, embodying respect and care for the life experience of vulnerable groups. 2. In-depth analysis of mental dilemmas The novel does not stop at exposing social problems on the surface, but goes deep into the hearts of the characters to explore the common spiritual dilemmas of modern people: loneliness, betrayal, broken dreams, identity anxiety, and a sense of emptiness in existence. Whether they are educated female college students or migrant workers at the bottom, they all face their own emotional and existential crises. This kind of care transcends class and points directly to the common spiritual pain of mankind. 3. A serious discussion on the proposition of "love and redemption" The core of the story is "love and redemption". Migrant workers are driven by love and hatred, and ultimately seek relief and devotion through an extreme method; female college students, after suffering emotional destruction, seek meaning in another twisted relationship. The novel does not avoid the dark side of love (possession, paranoia, sacrifice), but it also hints at the possibility of redemption through the final possible "understanding" and "common facing" - even if this redemption is full of tragedy. 4. Compassionate observation of communication and understanding The dialogue between the two protagonists in a desperate situation is the most humanistic part of the novel. They come from different worlds, but in the symbolic isolation space of the Great Wall, they have achieved a certain degree of mutual confiding and understanding. This understanding is not a conventional love, but the seeing of two injured souls in each other, and a compassionate understanding of the lonely nature of "human beings". 5. An implicit critique of social structural injustice The novel's humanistic care is also reflected in its reflection on social structure. The inferiority complex of migrant workers and the objectified emotional relationships of female college students all reflect deep-seated issues such as class solidification, inequality in educational resources, and consumerism's alienation of emotions. The author's concern is that he does not simply blame individuals, but allows people to see the helplessness and struggle of individuals under structural pressure. 6. Extra chapter: Gentle protection of "hope" and "rebirth" The extra chapter "Spring Eighteen Years Later" is the sublimation of humanistic care. It does not let the story stop at tragedy, but gives a possibility full of warmth: redemption, waiting, growth and reunion. It affirms the healing power of time, affirms people's ability to rebuild their lives and believe in love after experiencing great trauma, and embodies a deep belief in the resilience of life. In summary The advantage of this novel's humanistic care is that it focuses on marginalized groups and spiritual corners that are often ignored, and listens to their stories with great patience and empathy. It does not judge or simplify, but buries a firm belief in dignity, understanding, redemption, and love in the cruel narrative. It allows us to see that even in the most desolate and desperate situations, the true connection and seeing between people is still the eternal light of humanity.

The artistry of this novel lies in its highly condensed dramatic tension and cruel poetry. It places the desperate spiritual situation of two marginalized characters on the wild Great Wall, a symbolic barbaric stage. Through a long and dense and explosive dialogue, it nakedly presents betrayal, hatred, humble love and desperate yearning for "heaven" like a one-act play. The narrative abandons redundant descriptions, and emotions burst out in extreme confrontations. The juxtaposition of rough reality and abstract longing (such as the other world symbolized by the "Oxford Dictionary") creates a strong contrast, showing the complexity and shocking power of unconventional emotional relationships. The style is cold and philosophical.

In 2002, I saw a beautiful college student giving up her seat to a migrant worker carrying a large bag on the No. 300 Bus in Beijing. That scene made me see beauty. Later, it was made into the movie "Wild Great Wall" and was shortlisted for the FIRST Film Festival.

This wild Great Wall is very wild and powerful.

Very innovative and shocking. It is completely different from other novels. It is not a routine, but an art.

Masterpiece of neorealism

The writing is delicate and really a good work
