Chinese Showbiz: Setting Sail with a New World Film in Hong Kong

In 2005, Hong Kong's entertainment industry was in decline, and people in front of and behind the camera were heading to the mainland to make a living. Li Yu, a talented but overlooked director in his previous life, transmigrated into this one with a degree from USC, an intricate network of Hollywood connections, and a privileged family background. Choosing to come to Hong Kong at this particular moment, he did not intend to save its entertainment industry. Instead, he would bring its resources together and use his knowledge of the future to make a name for himself in Hong Kong, then ride that momentum into mainland entertainment. He would conquer both Hollywood and the mainland, step by step becoming an entertainment mogul. The first step: making a Hong Kong version of A New World.
