1. Protagonist Zhang Tianfan: A goofy young man who inherited the Celestial Master's bloodline. He excels at getting out of trouble in absurd ways, and his magical weapon is a peachwood sword that can turn into a back scratcher. His catchphrase is, “Catching ghosts is nowhere near as fun as catching toys.”
2. Second protagonist Wang Pang: Zhang Tianfan's bad-news buddy, who calls himself “the modern-day Zhong Kui.” In truth, he's a cowardly glutton who can regain his strength by eating ghosts. His portable “snack bag of wonders” contains bizarre magical weapons like spicy strips and chocolate.
3. Female lead: Zhongli Xue, a cool, glamorous older-sister type and a once-in-a-millennium genius of the Maoshan Sect. After Zhang Tianfan ruined her aloof image with the “female ghost selfie incident,” the two became a pair of squabbling sweethearts.
