The parents gave all the wealth they had accumulated over a lifetime to their three sons, not leaving a single cent to their second son and his wife, whom they called honest but useless.
When old age and frailty caught up with them, their three sons and daughters-in-law treated them with disdain, each household taking them in for a month at a time.
When the month turned over on the 31st, the fourth son brought the old couple to the third son’s home on the 30th. The third son’s wife said they couldn’t come in until the first of the month.
The eldest son’s wife opened the door early the next morning and saw two snowmen at the entrance. She threw a basin of water over them, only to discover that the old couple had frozen to death.
The three brothers blamed one another for their parents’ deaths, and none was willing to take care of their funeral.
When the second son, Liangzi, heard the news and rushed over, he was heartbroken. He said he was willing to sell the fish in his fishpond just to bury his parents, no matter how they had treated him when they were alive.
Lin Junmin’s soul hovered in midair as he watched it all, overcome with regret. He hated that he and his wife had been fools their whole lives, and swore that if he could be reborn, he would teach his three ungrateful sons a lesson.
Then he opened his eyes and discovered that he really had been reborn, and his wife had returned with him.
With a second chance at life, he would start by setting his two wayward sons straight.
Overall, it's well written and the plot is not laggy. It's a short story that I personally feel is pretty good. The ending is a bit sloppy, but I hope the author will continue to work hard 😄😄
