The Ups and Downs of the Stock Market: Above the Tides

The electronic screens in Shanghai’s trading hall never go dark. Red means celebration, green signals collapse, and every day, fortunes are made and wiped out here. Ordinary retail investor Lin Yanzhou enters the stock market with the money his mother needs to survive, driven by the hope of changing his fate. At first, he blindly chases rising prices and sells in a panic when they fall. Then the big players fleece him, leaving him with nothing. It’s only in the depths of despair that he glimpses the market’s underlying logic. By chance, he meets Su Qinghe, a legendary stock trader who has retired from the scene. Under Su’s guidance, Lin sheds his recklessness and devotes himself to studying the capital battles behind the candlestick charts. He learns to lie low amid market fluctuations and break through when the tide turns. As speculative funds, institutional control, and insider information weave a vast web, and self-interest entangles family ties, friendship, and love, Lin must face both the market’s unpredictability and the greed and fear of human nature. Amid the stormy seas of the stock market, he searches for a way to survive, growing from an inexperienced retail investor into an investor who can stand on his own. In the end, he also comes to understand the truth of life behind wealth: what matters more than profit.
