In 1999, seven residential communities on the outskirts of the city were built in the layout of the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper. Each community sealed one of the negative emotions of human beings - despair, greed, fear, anger, jealousy, indifference, and the core "hunger". There are weird "house rules" circulating here: "Don't go out after 12 o'clock at night" "Don't stare at the mirror when you are alone in the elevator"... If you follow the rules, you may survive; if you violate the rules, your existence will be erased, as if you have never lived.
Lu Chenzhou, a graduate student in folklore, entered the Anningli community in search of his brother who disappeared three years ago. He meets Su Nian, a professional sleep tester who cannot feel fear, Lao Gu, an old maintenance worker who knows the rules well, and Lin Zhiqiu, a reckless but pure new tenant. The four people discovered that the anomalies in the seven communities originated from a sealed conceptual life-"The Hungry One": It is an existence condensed by the fear of nothingness in the collective subconscious of mankind. It does not swallow life, but only swallows the right to "be remembered". As modern people's emotions become thinner, the seals are loosening, and the rules begin to become invalid, distorted, and contradictory.
When the sacrifice sect tries to feed the "hungry ones" with negative emotions, and when the seven "old men" who guard the truth deteriorate one by one, the protagonist group must find a third way among the collapsed rules: not to eliminate, not to feed, but to let this eternal "hungry" learn what "full" means - to be remembered, recognized, and accepted. This is an adventure about fear, memory and existence. The ultimate answer is: When everything is erased, how can we prove that we have survived?
