Ye Zhizhi is a female jiangshi who has survived for a century by secretly absorbing moonlight in a museum. By accident, a bug-ridden System hurls her into the tomb-raiding world of 2003.
In the mountains of western Hunan, she runs into Hei Xiazi, also known as Qi Hei, who is working an illegal job. Desperate for food and a place to stay, she reluctantly teams up with the mysterious man in sunglasses, unaware that she has stepped into a vast mystery surrounding immortality.
She fears glutinous rice, needs to bask in moonlight, has extraordinary skills but little common sense. Her strange behavior soon arouses Hei Xiazi's suspicions. Meanwhile, a mission from the System's Xiao Jiu to “collect temporal energy” leads them toward a series of bizarre incidents: Warring States bronze fragments, an incorruptible female corpse on Mangshan, and a corpse-nurturing jar by the Xiang River.
From western Hunan to Beijing, from Yunnan to Changbai Mountain, they bicker and trade barbs along the way, yet are willing to trust each other with their lives. Zhizhi's unusual constitution is gradually exposed, the various forces of the Old Nine Gates appear one after another, and the mastermind behind it all, the Immortality Society, is after her as the perfect “vessel for eternal life.”
When the ultimate choice arrives before the Bronze Gate:
Will she sacrifice herself to end a thousand-year-old curse?
Or will they find another way and rewrite fate for love?
