In her freshman year, Lin Xi fell in love at first sight with Gu Nan, a student from the Department of Architecture, in the hallway where she was interviewing at the Student Union.
He was the school bully known throughout the school, but she hid in the corner and secretly drew his little transparent pictures. She thought that this secret love would end in vain, until that dinner, he said in front of everyone: "Lin Xi, I like you."
They were together for a whole year. The library, canteen, and Lover's Slope are full of their shadows.
But on the day of graduation, he left without saying goodbye and flew to the other side of the ocean.
Lin Xi waited at the school gate until the dormitory door was locked, but what she was waiting for was the news that he was going abroad. She sent a breakup text and then blocked all his contact information.
A year later, Gu Nan came back—as a graduate teaching assistant.
He stood on the podium and talked about architectural structures, while she drew a sketch in the audience that she had not finished for three years. He handed her a notebook, with the title page saying: "To Lin Xi. Design needs soul, and so does architecture."
