Wu Xie, a top student in Zhejiang University's architecture department and a staunch materialist straight man, was forced to marry his good buddy Zhang Qiyang because of an absurd pact made by the previous generations of the Wu and Zhang families.
He thought it was merely a marriage of convenience, two brothers covering for each other. But just after their agreement took effect, Zhang Qiyang died in a bizarre car accident.
At the funeral, a lawyer read out an utterly outrageous will in front of everyone: “My most precious treasure, Wu Xie, is entrusted to my brother Zhang Qiling to look after. Brother, I’m begging you.”
Wu Xie flew into a rage on the spot. “I’m a living, breathing person! What the hell do you mean, ‘entrusted to a guardian’?”
But after he was forced to live with his cold, aloof brother-in-law, whose sleep schedule was downright otherworldly, Wu Xie’s materialist worldview completely crumbled.
A drowned driver who came back from the dead outside the door in the middle of the night, an old videotape under the bed smeared with black blood, a mysterious array on the third basement level of Zhejiang University's old library... It turned out Zhang Qiyang’s death was no accident. It was part of a century-old family curse of immortality, and Wu Xie was the sacrifice for this generation.
