Chen Shanhe, 18 years old, is a descendant of farmers from the black soil of Guandong. He is illiterate, but he can judge the weather from cloud patterns; he doesn't understand general principles, but he firmly believes that "not an inch of ancestral land should be lost." The sound of gunfire on September 18th shattered his dream of spring plowing and autumn harvest. He picked up a gun, initially just to protect his own farmland and the folks in the village. He never imagined that this road would extend from the snowfields of Northeast China to the mountains of North Korea, and the belief that supported his path gradually sublimated from "protecting the family" to "defending the country."
