The modern city was "assimilated" by a mysterious force overnight and turned into a deadly playground called "Scarlet City". The city was blocked by high walls, and 99% of humans were replaced by monsters called "pretenders" who imitated human speech and behavior and took pleasure in preying on real survivors. The survivors, known as "Awakeneds," must struggle to survive in this malevolent city.
