Miasma chokes the remote mountains. Lin Nuo is the lamb who has wandered into hell.
The young Lu Ci takes her back to his village and treats her far too well: he picks the sweetest wild fruit and lays out the softest grass mat. His eyes are usually as gentle as moonlight over the mountains. But she knows what kind of damp, sinister monster hides beneath that gentle facade.
Anyone who so much as looks at her vanishes into thin air. Their bones rot in the soil, food for the mountain insects. He uses tenderness as shackles and kindness as fangs, keeping her penned in this little world and calling it “protection.”
When she sneaks down the mountain at night, she runs into Lu Ci at its foot, soaked from head to toe. He remains calm, but his usually handsome face is now lit with a hellish crimson glow.
He advances step by step, gripping her shoulder so tightly his knuckles turn white.
“Running away? Hmm?”
He smiles, cold enough to chill her to the bone, and roughly rubs his thumb across her lips.
“Lin Nuo, every inch of your blood and bones was nurtured by me. You dare run off with my life?”
He bends down and bites the side of her neck. Pain and the bitter tang of medicine rush over her.
“Too late.”
“In this life, the next, for all eternity, you’ll rot by my side. I won’t let go, and no one can take you away. If you try to run, I’ll break your legs, fatten you up, and lock you in my den. You’ll never stand again.”
How could this be a light? It’s a ghost come to claim her life.
Her salvation has long since become her death trap.
Good-looking, good-looking 🥰 [Admiration] It's so wonderful
