War of Resistance: The Road to Becoming a Great General Starts as a Regiment Commander

In 1939, amid the smoke of war in southeastern Shanxi, Zheng Zhiheng, a top graduate of the National Defense University, unexpectedly transmigrates into the role of commander of the New Fourth Regiment, 386th Brigade, 139th Division of the Eighth Route Army. He brings with him modern military theory, along with a background at Huangpu Military Academy and in Germany. At twenty-two, he faces a force with shoddy equipment and scarce supplies, while the Japanese army presses forward with relentless sweeps. He refuses to retreat. Instead, he skillfully combines modern large-scale warfare with guerrilla tactics behind enemy lines, using precise command and scientific logistics to lead the young unit to victory in the Taihang Mountains. From ambushes and sabotage missions to breaking encirclements and launching strategic counteroffensives, Zheng Zhiheng wins battle after battle, turning the New Fourth Regiment into a hardened force that strikes terror into the Japanese. He must not only fight to the death on the battlefield, but also unite every possible ally in the complex territory behind enemy lines, paving a legendary path from regimental commander to general in the cause of national liberation.
