The Eternal Immortal Venerable of the Nine Wastelands

Above the Nine Heavens, the Execution Platform for Immortals split apart.

The firmament crumbled, the starry river turned upside down, and billions of divine bolts of lightning poured down like a heavenly river, crashing onto a solitary, towering figure.

Ling Chen wore the purple-gold imperial robe that had drawn the worship of countless immortals. In his hand was the Chaos Immortal Sword that had opened the heavens and split the earth. The Three Thousand Great Daos circled around him, yet his immortal robes were stained with blood and his immortal bones shattered to pieces.

He was the Immortal Venerable Lingxiao, who ruled the Nine Wastes, held dominion over the ages, and had lived for billions of years.

With one hand, he had created the Immortal Domain; with the other, he had brought order to the world. A wave of his hand could suppress the myriad realms, and a glance could shatter the stars.

Yet at the final moment, just as he was about to ascend to the supreme position of Immortal Emperor, his most trusted disciple joined forces with powerful enemies from across the heavens to betray him.

"Master, your Dao is too powerful. It keeps all of us awake at night."

His once courteous and respectful direct disciple now held a blade forged to slay immortals, his face twisted with greed and malice. "Your position as Immortal Venerable should be mine now."

"Ling Chen, you've monopolized the immortal opportunities of the ages and claimed the fortune of the Nine Wastes. Today is your last day!"

"Kill him! Take his immortal bones and devour his immortal essence. Then we can take his place!"

Countless immortal and demonic overlords, the supreme beings of a myriad realms, descended upon him like starving wolves.

The Great Dao thundered, and immortal arts exploded.

With nothing but a sword, Ling Chen fought alone against the heavens.

His immortal sword fell, shattering stars. His imperial might swept across the world, and the myriad realms submitted.

But there were too many enemies, and they were too powerful. Worse still, they turned the techniques he had personally taught them and the formations he had personally laid against him, using them all on their former master.

Immortal blood rained across the Nine Heavens, staining the boundless sea of clouds red.
