Black Butler: The Withered Rose Arc

Jim Maken, whose life was consumed by hatred and loneliness, was known to the world only as the obsessive and deranged Alois Tolansy.

As his soul fell onto the Island of Death, on the verge of traveling to the Land of Nirvana, he finally laid down the exhaustion and fury he had carried for so long. The bone-deep grudge and heart-searing hatred were behind him. He only wanted to bring everything to an end, draw a line beneath his shattered, tumultuous life, and reunite with his younger brother, Luca.

But a sky full of withered roses gathered around his soul and pulled him back to the living world. He didn’t know that the withered rose that had awakened him was the very love and salvation he had spent his whole life longing for, yet could never attain.
