My Two Lives and China's Rise

In the sweltering summer of 2003, during the SARS outbreak, epidemic mists blanketed Jieyang. Chen Mei suddenly awakened memories of reincarnations buried across two lifetimes.

In her previous life, the fires of war consumed all, and the land was shattered. She lost her home and family. The young general Xiao Yuan devoted himself to his country and guarded its borders, with no failing toward the people of the world, yet he alone failed to return her deep love. By the time he reached her through the journey of a war-torn age, it was too late, leaving only regrets that endured through lifetime after lifetime. Only the boy in white, Shen Chen, kept watch by her lonely grave year after year, silently staying beside her through every season and gently easing the endless chill of her long nights.

She woke from the great dream to find that her biological father in this life had suddenly died. Determined to defy the odds and break the cycle, she sought to escape the tragedy that had repeated for a thousand years.

To sever a century-old chain of karma and ill-fated ties, Chen Mei left her hometown of Jieyang and traveled alone to Sanya. Gao Yun, a Li man whose love and hatred had entangled her across two lifetimes, spent twenty years amid the twists and turns of the mortal world, caught between good and evil. In the end, he submitted to the laws of the age, and all was settled. The resentment, devotion, love, and hatred that had bound them through two lifetimes were finally put to rest.

A call made to the wrong number pierced the barrier of time and rekindled the bonds of fate. The warlord Xiao Yuan was reincarnated in the present as Luo Yuan, a sincere and upright serving officer. Carrying the debts left unpaid in his previous life, he crossed the vastness of time, seeking only her return.

Shen Chen, who had once kept watch beside her lonely grave, was also reincarnated as Bai Jie. He followed her year after year, never leaving her side, and became her steadiest source of protection through the long rise and fall of her life.

Bearing the memories of two lifetimes, Chen Mei broke free of fate's shackles and saw through the cause and effect of the mortal world. She walked with her era and shared its fate with her country, finding redemption and a magnificent new beginning in the surging tide of a flourishing age.
