When a System Meets a Workplace Backstabber

[An HR professional's plan to revive a sect after transmigrating: starting from scratch, getting something for nothing, and talking the System into knots along the way.]

What's it like to transmigrate into the body of a down-and-out sect master?

Yang Chen: Thanks for asking. I'm at the sect, and I just woke up to raindrops. The main hall leaks, the accounts are in debt, and my only employee is an old man named Lao Huang.

The good news: I'm bound to a System.

The bad news: Its interface is more primitive than DOS, and its first mission is “Recruit a genius disciple within three days,” with a reward of ten spirit stones.

Yang Chen: ??? What can ten spirit stones even buy? You have to haggle just to get a bun!

System: Please rely on yourself, Host.

Yang Chen: Then can I haggle a little?

System: Denied.

Yang Chen: Then let me try another approach

System: Denied.

Yang Chen looked at the broken System, which only knew how to say “Denied,” then glanced at the leaky roof and smiled.

Fine. So you're stubborn.

Then I'll show you the cunning of a seasoned workplace schemer.

Three days, huh? A genius disciple, huh?

Lao Huang, get ready to head down the mountain. We're going to start... recruiting.
