Legend has it that Xia Yu gathered bronze from the nine provinces and cast it into nine tripods, engraving them with the mountains, rivers, and strange creatures of each region to mark the realm's borders. The King of Chu once laid claim to the tripods from the Zhou court. After Qin destroyed Zhou, the nine tripods disappeared. Some say they sank into the Si River; others say they were lost in Xianyang. Hundreds of years later, a young man inherits a fragment of one of the tripods from his father. When foreign invaders breach the borders and chaos engulfs the land, can he find a place for himself and carve out a way to survive in this bloody age?
