Also known as: One Man Smashes 150,000 Jin Soldiers
On the eve of the Northern Song dynasty's fall, 150,000 Jin troops encircle Bianliang.
The charlatan Guo Jing flees through the city gates, and seven thousand “divine soldiers” drown in the river.
Moments before the city falls, a history student kneels in the snow: The heroes in the history books shouldn't die like this!
Battle One: Crossbows from the Heavens
The one emerging from the snow is Jiang Wei of Shu Han.
Caressing the worn-smooth stock of his crossbow, he says to the chancellor from eight hundred years ago:
“This is the tenth time. I want to win.”
Five hundred iron bolts hammer into the frozen earth, forming a line of arrows three hundred paces long.
Bianliang lies on one side, the Jin army on the other. Not a single man dares cross the line.
Battle Two: The Mo Dao Breaks the Formation
The one descending from the city wall is Li Siyue, the Mo Dao general of Anxi.
Holding the Mo Dao that has been rusting for three hundred years, he strides barefoot through the snow:
“Three hundred years. Today, this blade draws blood.”
The heavy armor of the Iron Pagodas is like paper beneath his blade.
Battle Three: The Black-Armored Charge
The sky splits open, and thunder crashes three times.
A black-armored youth holding a pair of hammers crouches in the ruins, staring at his hands.
I point to the 150,000 Jin troops below the city. “Those are all bad people.”
He looks up. “Then I won't be killing the wrong people.”
A single youth smashes the 150,000 Jin troops back thirty miles.
Bianliang is saved.
But Taiyuan is still waiting.
Eighty thousand Jin troops, three hundred days under siege, and one hundred thousand people eating tree bark.
A soldier with three arrows in his body rushes into the victory banquet and dies before the imperial steps. In his arms is his own “rations.”
The youth who has killed a million people suddenly falls to his knees:
“He held out for three hundred days. I lasted three. He was stronger than me.”
Five hundred miles of occupied territory. Eighty thousand Jin troops.
The youth stands and looks north.
“If there are bad people, I'll kill them.”
