The White Olive Tree and the Military Flag

To follow her childhood friend Lu Ye, Lin Nian gives up the chance to study abroad and becomes a doctor at a military hospital. But Lu Ye, still haunted by the death of his former girlfriend during a mission, keeps avoiding Lin Nian’s love. The two grow closer through one life-and-death mission after another, only to be pulled apart time and again by Lu Ye’s occupational habits and Lin Nian’s lack of security. When Lin Nian finally survives a brush with death on the battlefield, thinking she has warmed the heart of this stone, Lu Ye chooses to let her go, bound by a promise to a fallen comrade and concerned for Lin Nian’s future. In the end, Lin Nian travels far away to join a medical aid team in Africa. On opposite sides of the border, the two gaze at each other from afar, each guarding the olive tree and military flag in their heart.
