In a Tokyo University lecture hall, a professor plays a documentary glorifying the invasion: “The Nanjing Massacre was Kuomintang propaganda. The actual death toll was under thirty thousand.”
Chen Ji raises his hand and says calmly, “According to the judgment of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, more than two hundred thousand people died in Nanjing. According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry archives, in December 1937 alone, the Japanese army buried more than 150,000 bodies in Nanjing.”
The whole class bursts out laughing.
The professor sneers. “You’re Chinese, aren’t you? I understand your national sentiments.”
