I live in the southernmost tip of the mainland of my motherland - a "border place" soaked in mountain mist, where legends and daily life are intertwined. There is a world of another dimension hidden here: the "rice boys" who are born to guard the home, the "Du Niang" who is in charge of the tranquility of the water veins, the tombkeepers who can communicate with the ancestors, and the herb collectors who wander in the mountains and fields...
I (Xiaobai) am the recorder of these stories. I have been obsessed with supernatural legends since I was a child, and I have the habit of writing down the stories about the guardians that are passed down orally in the countryside. In the secretive little group I joined, these contemporary myths about fairy boys, rice boys, and mountain spirits and water spirits are disappearing at an increasingly faster rate.

This is the "weirdness" of our time, the last echo of an ancient spirituality in the present.
