In his past life, Zhao Lei was a despicable gambling addict.
He lost the money his mother needed to survive, drove his younger sister to her death, and left his father crippled. He betrayed the wife who had devoted herself to him, and on New Year’s Eve in 2000, he froze to death in an abandoned bridge alcove, forgotten by everyone. His family was destroyed, and his body was never even recovered.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month in 1978, one day before he would lose the money meant to save his mother, rack up loan-shark debts, and ruin his entire family.
This time, Zhao Lei came to his senses and turned over a new leaf!
First, he stormed into the gambling den, exposed the cheating friends who had fleeced him, took down the vicious bully who preyed on people, and won back every cent he had lost, with interest, nipping the tragedy in the bud!
Then he protected his family, cured his mother, put his sister through college, and held together their storm-tossed home, making up for every regret from his past life!
The golden opportunities of reform and opening up lay just ahead. While others were still eking out a living on work points, Zhao Lei was already riding the wave of the times, going from street stalls and resale deals to factories and nationwide chains. He rose from a penniless gambling addict to one of the country’s top business magnates!
And the woman who had shared a lifetime of hardship with him in his past life? This time, he would marry her with a grand bridal procession, cherish her with all his heart, and give her a lifetime of security and happiness!
Anyone who dared lay a hand on his family or hurt his loved ones would pay a hundredfold!
