My name is Lin Mo. I'm a folk-custom streamer who's nearly starving to death.
To raise money for Grandma's life-saving treatment, I snuck down to the river in the middle of the night to livestream a corpse retrieval.
Instead, I hauled up the body of a girl in a school uniform.
The instant the corpse opened its eyes, two lines of bloody text appeared on my phone screen:
[Rule One: Corpse retrievers must not look back!]
[Rule Two: If the corpse opens its eyes, hold your breath immediately!]
I was so damn scared I nearly couldn't catch my breath.
But the number of people in my livestream skyrocketed, and gifts poured in. I had no time to read the comments, though, because the corpse's hand had already grabbed my ankle.
My phone buzzed again, and the bloody text updated:
[Congratulations, you've been bound to the “Midnight Livestream Protocol”]
[Newbie mission: Survive tonight]
[Reward: You can see the karmic threads connecting “them”]
[Penalty: Be plagued by karma and die a horrible death]
I learned later that the corpse was only the beginning. In those things' eyes, my ability to see karma was a karmic flame capable of burning through reincarnation. My grandpa, who'd been dead for a lifetime, had left me a message at the bottom of the river: “Grandson, smash that damn wheel. Smash it along with the old bastard in there named Liu Jianguo.”
Reading guide:
1. Livestreams + rules-based horror, with viewers voting on life-or-death choices.
2. Folk horror, with stories behind corpse retrieval, spirit-walking, and blade-selling on credit.
3. The protagonist keeps his wits about him: he knows when to be cautious, and when to be ruthless, he goes all the way.
4. Six thousand words updated daily, never a missed update.
The storyline is quite novel
